"Sonic the Hedgehog 2020" is right around the corner.
This is the year that we finally get "Sonic the Hedgehog" film. For those of you who don't know it, this movie was originally supposed to be released on 8th November, 2019. But, it's release was delayed for a somewhat obvious reason.
It's because, when the trailer of the movie was released on April 30, 2019. Fans didn't take too fancy with the way Sonic looked in this film. An overwhelmingly large amount of people started criticising the new character design.
This criticism made the Paramount studio delay the film's release.
They started working on redesigning Sonic to make him look more fictional, as the previous version seemed to be too human like, it didn't had that Sonic vibe coming from it.
Just look at his eyes and teeth, this is not what they were supposed to look like.
It seemed that the producers wanted to make Sonic look more like what a character is supposed to, in live action films. To do that they used CGI to add fur and new running sneakers. His eyes were also shrunk in size.
Executive producer Tim Miller said,
"It would be weird and it would feel like he was running around nude if he was some sort of otter-like thing. It was always, for us, fur, and we never considered anything different. It's part of what integrates him into the real world and makes him a real creature."
Truth be told, SEGA also considered the Human like character design to be a mistake.
With this amount of negative feedback on just the trailer, there was no way, the director was just going to sit still and do nothing.
The director Jeff Fowler tweeted this in reply to the criticism,
"Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount and Sega are fully committed to making this character the best he can be."
Now remaking even a small portion of a movie isn't easy on the pocket. There are a lot of tiny details to consider and the cost can be in millions.
The rumored cost needed for this remake was about 35 Million dollars.
However, on November 18, some sources revealed that in reality, it is only costing the studio less that 5 Million dollars.
Still, to start remaking a movie based on criticism alone, isn't something that usually happens.
Fortunately, the new trailer that was released on 12th November, 2019 turned out to be exponentially better compared to the previous one. Sonic now looks more like what he is supposed to.
As you can see, there's a substantial disconnect between how he looks now, and how he used to.
A blue Hedgehog, Sonic to be more precise.
He dashes at the speed of 760 mph and ends up creating a massive energy outrage that knocks down the power of the entire Pacific Northwest. He catches the interest of the government because of this instance, who then hire a strange man known as Dr. Robotnik in order to uncover what actually caused this outrage.
However, the Doctor becomes a little too obsessed with the supernatural speed of Sonic. He decides to hunt him down and then use his powers to dominate the whole world.
What we know is that we had to wait a few extra months to finally be able to see the movie. And now that the movie is right around the corner. The anticipation of fans is as high as ever.
Will it be worth the wait?
Of course, it will be.
It is going to be EPIC!!!
