Anyone who loves Marvel most certainly will love the X-Men, and anyone who loves the X-Men must love Professor X. Professor Charles Francis Xavier, aka-Professor X, is regarded as the founder and leader of the X-Men, and also among the first characters to appear in the Marvel X-Men Comics by featuring in the first show X-Men #1 (September 1963). To date, The Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s creation has graced the comics and screen with his highly intelligence-filled bald head.

But more than the bald X-Men leader as most of us know him to be, there remains a whole lot of Professor X information that makes him yet one of the most influential minds in the Universe. So follow us as we lead you through a path of mind-bogging Professor X facts.

Interesting Professor X facts you need to know

1) He may be the greatest mind ever to have walked the Earth, or rode

Being paralyzed and unable to engage in physical combat, his mind remains his greatest weapon, and can use it to de-arm his greatest foe. He can’t wiggle his toe but can use his mind to wiggle yours. The only other telepathic character that could perhaps combat him brain-wise is Jean Grey.

2) He’s so much power when in the astral plane

Professor X can astral project himself into an astral plane, where he can create new objects and surroundings and control them while being able to destroy the astral forms of his enemies.

3) He can perceive the presence of mutants

Professor X can detect the brain waves of other mutants close by, and so cannot easily get jumped by a mutant.

4) He sends bolts with his mind

From his mind, Xavier can project psychic energy bolts capable of stunning and inflicting mental injury to his attacker, or worse still, killing them.

5) He can speak the whole languages on Earth

Professor Xavier can easily access the language centers of a person’s brain and learn their language. So to learn all the languages in the world, all he has to do is travel to all civilization on Earth either in his superjet or via the astral plane.

6) The X-Men team was named after him

You fell for that stuff he said about the “X” in X-Men coming from that little “extra” gene found in mutants, right? Well, surprise-surprise! It turns out Professor Charles Xavier has a big ego, and he couldn’t pass up the idea of having his name forever tied with the world’s greatest team of superheroes. After all, The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe admits that he just looked at Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four and said to himself, “If him, why not me?”

7) He gave purpose to young kids struggling with their powers

Throughout the X-Men comics and film series, Professor Xavier is depicted as a benevolent father figure who took in lost young mutants who were struggling to accept themselves and their powers. This he did by recruiting new found mutants into his school in Salem Center, Westchester County, New York, and train them into becoming superheroes. He taught them control over their powers and how to harness them for the good of the world.

8) But he hasn’t always been a saint

The comics have had a series of stories depicting Xavier as a guy who has done some bad things in the past. He once wiped an X-Men team out of memory as they didn’t meet up to expectation, hobbled an evil psychic mutant, and created a psychic villain Onslaught because of his repressed evil urges.

9) He hasn’t spent all his X-Men days on a wheelchair

professor x 1

Just like other high-profile handicapped mutants like Daredevil, The X-Men leader has gained the use of his legs more than once, thanks to some pills that made his powers useless. He ended up with his powers again with no legs. Well, who wouldn’t trade their legs for powers as great as Xavier’s?

10) Lucifer paralyzed him

In the comics, Professor X got his paralysis when a large boulder was dropped on his legs by Lucifer.

11) He couldn’t control Hulk’s mind

He tried to but realized Hulk’s rage was like an elemental force he couldn’t overcome.

12) Xavier is a world-class genius

The professor has bagged doctorates in genetics, biophysics, psychology, and anthropology. He also has an M.D in psychiatry.

13) He has a favorite book

From the X-Tinction Agenda storyline, it was revealed that Professor X’s favorite book is T.H White’s The Once and Future King.

14) The dude is stinkingly rich

Professor Charles Xavier, in addition to his cabinet of doctorates, has a net worth of over $3.5 billion. Yeah, wow!

15) He was married twice

The Shi’ar Empress Lilandra allied with Xavier for political purposes, and the two of them got closer from there until they moved as spouses. But X’s evil twin sister ruined the marriage by possessing the Empress and driving her crazy.

After Professor Xavier’s death (you know these superheroes keep coming back to life), it was also found in his will that he was once married to the shapeshifter Mystique a.k.a. Raven.

16) His archenemy Magneto was supposed to be his brother

This was Stan Lee’s original plan, but the renowned creator ended up making Magneto and Xavier old best friends, and the indestructible Juggernaut, Cain Marko to be his stepbrother.

17) He once went braindead

After reading Deadpool’s mind, Professor X’s brain went completely blank.

18) He has a relationship with Charles Darwin

Darwin and Xavier have an intimate father-son relationship.

19) He once served in the army

Surprised, right? It’s alright to be, given his incapacity (that’s if you want to regard him as disabled given his abilities). He used his abilities in search and rescue missions in the United States Army.

20) He practiced hand to hand combat

During his travels to Asia, Professor X engaged in hand-to-hand combat practice and even became quite proficient in pressure points.

21) The faces of the professor in the movies

Professor X’s character has been played by Patrick Stewart in 7 X-Men movies, while James McAvoy played the younger version of the professor in the 2011 prequel X-Men: First Class.

22) He has a destructive plan should the X-Men become a threat to mankind

In his wisdom, the professor knows there may come a time when one of the X-Men characters may go rogue, and so he has detailed a protocol to kill such powerful mutant characters. He also has the same plan for himself. And that’s quite understandable. These set of destructive protocols are known as the Xavier protocols.

23) The Xavier Protocols were used on Onslaught

Onslaught, being a creation of Professor Xavier, became too powerful but was stopped, thanks to the Xavier protocols.

24) Professor X once used the Mind Infinity Gem

This gem allows the user to have unlimited access to the minds and dreams of all other beings in existence, and even do this simultaneously. But Xavier has sworn never to use the gem again or reveal its location to anyone.
