What’s the Story?

A new American Television mini-series is premiered on Hulu on 5th March of this year, i.e., 2020 titled “Devs”. It can be an excellent pick to binge if you love to watch Thriller science fiction movies and TV shows. The drama features Jin Ha, Sonoya Mizuno, Caile Spaeny, Nick Offerman, and Zach Grenier. You can also see Stephen McKinley, Karl Glusman, Henderson, and Alison Pill in leading roles. The main contribution behind this mini-series goes to Alex Garland. It is because he directed, written, and created the series. The Devs TV Show is available to watch in English and has been made in the US.

It was produced by FXP and DNA TV and was distributed under the banner of 20th Television. The team of executive producers includes Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, Allon Reich, and Andrew Macdonald. The first and second episode was released on 5th March 2020 then the third one on 12th March. Later, the fourth was on 19th March, and 5th revealed on 26th March. The last three episodes were released on April 2nd, 9th, and 16th, respectively, of this year.


A total of 8 episodes are there, with each of them have a runtime of 43 to 57 minutes, so the complete story is of 6 hours and 49 minutes. It is based on a software engineer Lily Chan(Sonoya), who works for a quantum computing company named Amaya handled by Forest (Nick). His boyfriend died on the first day at Devs as his new job, and later she is embroiled in this mysterious death. She started investigating within her company’s secretive development division. After then she came to know that her company is dangerous for the whole planet.

At New York Comic Con, Garland explained the reason after making this mini-series. He said that he studied science that is based on the principle of determinism. It depicts whatever is happening in the world, has some reason behind it, and also leaves some effect. He added, if a person is good at computers, then he is also powerful enough to use the determinism in understanding the past and predicting the future.

Is it any Good?

The series highlights a particular story of a Silicon Valley with life that has determinism and free will. On IMDB, the series has an average rating of 7.8 from 10 based on more than 17.5k voters.

The average score of critic’s votes on rotten tomatoes is 81% and 76% from audiences with more than 80 reviews. On Metacritic, series has gained 70 out of 100 as per an average of more than 30 votes as generally favorable reviews.

Many critics have given their positive comments on the soundtrack, acting of casts, and imagination. Altogether the film has appealing inputs for its viewers. It is based on a quite impressive and new concept to watch something a bit different than we usually see in action movies.

Overall the pace of the story is a bit contemplative and slow. Having patience while watching it till the end of what will happen next is what enhances the viewer’s excitement!


You have to watch all the episodes of Devs TV Show with patience to get its actual theme. It will let people think about how data, computers, and algorithms in the form of software dictate our life. Also, the most important is how much we can have control over them in real life. So, if you belong to the IT industry, you can better relate to the characters in it; otherwise, it’s just a fantasy to watch and enjoy in your free time!

It has been labeled as FX on Hulu to release every new episode weekly after the first one on March 5, 2020, in the US. The next day, i.e., March 6, 2020, the series had been released on Hotstar in India. By the way, the first teaser of this was made public on October 5, 2019. On 15 April 2020, BBC Two has premiered the show in the UK, and by this time, the complete series was also available on iPlayer.

By the way, the mini-series is filmed beautifully to add fiction based on technology. Thus, many of its viewers can find Devs interested in watching who are always surrounded by smart/computer-based gadgets!
