When it comes to animated films, Japan has been dominating this field for the past few decades. With masterpieces like Your name, A silent voice, 5 centimeters per second, and more. Japan is always able to touch the hearts of millions of people, not just by the extremely aesthetic animation but also the story, the music, the theme, the premise, the depiction of reality as inscribed in the movies. Not to mention that the new Makoto Shinkai film “Weathering with you” is rising in popularity like wildfire. You wouldn’t want to miss this one!
Aside from the obvious and popular titles like
- My Hero Academia THE MOVIE “HEROES: RISING”
- Fate/Grand Order: Shinsei Entaku Ryouiki Camelot MOVIE
- Made in Abyss: Dawn of The Deep Soul
- Fate/stay night heaven’s feel III. Spring Song MOVIE
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Infinity Train”
What we want to show you are the movies that are not getting the attention and the hype they deserve.
Doraemon STAND BY ME 2
Analytically speaking, most of the world knows about Doraemon, the cat from the future that can manifest dreams into a reality. It is a highly popular series among people of all ages. There are more than a thousand episodes, dozens of films and more.
A CGI film Stand by me (Doraemon) aired back in 2014. And this year (August 7, 2020) we are finally getting another one. But, even though it is such a widely-viewed series, many people are just not aware of this film.
Violet Evergarden Movie
For those of you who prefer Slice of life stuff over action and sci-fi, this movie is perfect!
Violet Evergarden (anime) was a masterpiece, it was an exceptionally beautiful anime with heart touching episodes and breathtaking visuals. And this movie is going to be sort of a sequel to that anime series.
If you haven’t watched this anime yet, now might be a good idea as the movie is scheduled to air on Apr 24, 2020 (in Japan)
Deemo the movie
This movie is going to be a nonsequel and it will be getting released sometime this year.
The story is going to be about a mystical character “Deemo” that lives in solitude until the day, a little girl falls from the sky. Deemo wants to help her get back to her home, but she simply can’t recall any of her memories.
Are the memories going to be nostalgic, or simply unbearable? Some people just aren’t fortunate enough to have a pleasant past.
Dounika Naru Hibi
A nonsequel that’ll be airing this year.
This movie might seem a little too simple at first glance but that’s just not the case.
It is going to be a compilation of stories that take a refreshing and humorous look at the sexual relationships of young people in Japan.
And, it is going to be much deeper than you think (Story-wise)
Josee to Tora to Sakana-Tachi
The last one on our list is.
“Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”
A youth romantic story that centers around the theme of growing up, it is about a college student Tsuneo and a dreamer Josee. Who is stuck living her life in a wheelchair, she spends her days reading and painting until the day she meets Tsuneo and everything changes.
The international release dates aren’t confirmed for any one of these films. But they are an interesting bunch indeed, worth the wait!
